smartphone app helps people who encounter problems with foreign-language texts. Called TextGrabber, it turns users' smartphones into instant translation devices.

Users only have to take a picture of the text and they can immediately edit or translate it through the app. But the photo of the text needs to be clear.

Users simply select texts for translation and can edit words or correct spellings. They can also store the translated data and then retrieve or check them later.
TextGrabber provides translations into more than 60 languages including Chinese, Danish, Dutch, English, German, Greek, Irish, Korean, Latin, Malay, Mongolian, Norwegian, Romanian, Russian, Spanish and Swedish.

The quality of translation is not top notch though. It uses the same translation programs as Google and Microsoft, but once they improve, TextGrabber will improve too.

Translation programs using scanners or photos already exist for PCs, but they are expensive, and this is the first smartphone app that can perform the trick.
